A Moment Like This 2: Healing Hands

Healing Hands - Paul and Jackie's Sweet Memorial

Moment: The Last Sunrise - Hope

Another memorable pair that had great chemistry in the original, but had to be "separated" due to "schedule conflicts" in the sequel. I understand that artists all have busy schedules, but honestly speaking, the audience love the series because the cast is able to bring their characters "to life". We love them because of their chemistry. Why bother starting a sequel when the characters we love end up dying or "going off" to elsewhere?

In Healing Hands, we have Paul and Jackie. From misunderstandings to friendship, which then evolved into love, the two shared similar experiences and were beside each other in moments of hardship. Having to perform the surgery that might possibly end your love one's life is probably the hardest task to accomplish. Paul accompanies Jackie to see the one last sunrise before her operation. Jackie places her trust in the man she loves, in hopes that she can recover so that they can create a better future together.

- Memorable Dialogue -

Jackie: Do you know what determines fate?

Paul: Someone once said, personality can determine fate.

Jackie: I don't think there is anything wrong with my personality. Is it because I don't cherish life? No, I do cherish life. Why me?

Paul: Another once said, God determines one's fate.

Jackie: I didn't do anything to harm others. So why me?

Paul: Someone also said one can determine his or her own fate.

Jackie: Do I still have the power to do anything at this point? What can I still do?

Paul: In the end, it might still depend on your willpower.

Jackie: I've been depending on myself all these years, it's quite nice to have someone crazy to rely on. It's not a bad thing at all.

Paul smiles.

------*

Paul: Bringing you back here, I want to tell you, no matter how beautiful things may be, without anyone to share it with, it's pointless.

Jackie: Isn't it because you're afraid I won't be able to see the sun rise anymore?

Paul: You said you won't give me pressure.

Jackie: I'm just afraid I won't have the chance to come here with you again in the future.

Paul: We don't come here often anyways. We'll have lots of other things to see in the future. Like the solar eclipse, the lunar eclipse, and...

Jackie: And the rainbow! I think one should at least see the rainbow once in a lifetime.

Paul: I've already seen it many times.

Jackie: I haven't.

Paul: Are you serious?

Jackie: What? It's nothing weird, just like sunrise and sunset, it is something we can wait for. We don't know where we can see the rainbow, and we don't know when we can see it. Who knows? You're lucky to have seen it. I haven't seen it, there's nothing wrong with that.

Paul: Okay, I'll find a way to bring the rainbow to you.

Jackie: You promise?

Paul: No problem. We still have decades to spend with each other, there is lots of time. You can see whatever you like.

Jackie: There are things that are repeated daily, but they are in fact different each day. I must remember the things I see.

Paul: Tomorrow maybe better than today, and the day after may be even more fulfilling. Things that happen in the future would be more meaningful.

Specialist Special 1: Forensic Pathologist

The Specialist Special collection is a featured spotlight exclusive to TVB Index.
Please do not repost elsewhere.

I'm sure many of you have watched the Forensic Heroes series, of all the characters I find Frankie Lam's character the most interesting. In the series Frankie plays Sam Koo, a forensic pathologist. I've been interested in this profession ever since watching Flora Chan's Untraceable Evidence series, so out of curiosity I decided to look up all the "popular" pathologists at TVB. Here are these "famous" individuals, how many of them are you familiar with?

BOBBY AUYEUNG AS SUNG CHI - WITNESS TO A PROSECUTION SERIES

Bobby AuYeung plays Sung Chi. His portrayal of Sung Chi should be very familiar to TVB fans; he is probably the most well known pathologist of the ancient generation. His "famous" wives includes Jessica Hsuan and Mariane Chan, who were in a love triangle with Bobby during part one. Their characters passed away in part two, therefore their "position" was succeeded by Charmaine Sheh in the sequel.

YOYO MUNG AS BAK SO - THE 'W' FILES

Yoyo Mung plays Bak So. How many of you remember that Yoyo played a forensic pathologist in 2003's The 'W' Files? The mysterious and daring Bak So paired up with the adventurous Wesley, played by Gallen Lo.

FRANKIE LAM AS SAM KOO - FORENSIC HEROES SERIES

How can we forget Dr. Koo? Frankie Lam plays the modern day pathologist, the handsome looking Sam. It's great to see the new technologies that developed since the UE days. In Forensic Heroes, Sam is paired up with the caring Ding Ding, played by Linda Chung.

FLORA CHAN AS PAULINE LIP - UNTRACEABLE EVIDENCE SERIES

Flora Chan plays Pauline Lip, a sophisticated yet emotional pathologist. It was this series that introduced me to this profession, but I was probably too young to know the term "forensic pathologist" 10+ years ago. In this series one of my favorite pairings was created, Flora Chan and Bowie Lam.

SHEREN TANG AS JOYCE YAN - THE FILE OF JUSTICE IV

When I decided to write this post, Sheren's name did not pop up in my head immediately. I actually had to think for three minutes before I remembered Joyce Yan from The File of Justice IV.

SAMMUL CHAN AS LAU WAH - WITNESS TO A PROSECUTION

Yes, Sammul Chan also played a pathologist in Witness. He plays Lau Wah. In the series, he made a forty second cameo, where he played a newbie pathologist who couldn't stand the awful smell of the decaying corpse, leaving the job to the expert Bobby.

GIGI LAI AS FRANCES SHUM - HEALING HANDS III

Gigi Lai plays Frances Shum in the third installment of Healing Hands. Not too many scenes focusing on her occupation, the series focuses more on her relationship with Lawrence Ng's Paul most of the time. For those who can't remember, Gigi dated Edmond, played by Michael Tong, before he was murdered.

KENNETH CHAN AS KELVIN KONG - DETECTIVE INVESTIGATION FILES I & II

Kenneth Chan played many minor roles during his years with TVB, including Kenix Kwok's cheating fiancé in the series. Kenneth was Kelvin Kong, the pathologist responsible for forensic examination in the first installment.

EVERGREEN MAK AS VINCENT FONG - DETECTIVE INVESTIGATION FILES II

Evergreen plays Vincent Fong, a reserved pathologist hiding many secrets. After his hidden secret was "dug" up, he was originally arrested and charged with murder. Luckily misunderstandings soon cleared up and he married his long time girlfriend Mak, played by Astrid Chan.
